In my latest tutorial on Creative Cow, we used the final shot from a recent project to demonstrate the basics of 2.5D tracking and rig removal using Photoshop, After Effects, and the Mocha AE tracker. You can view the completed edit here.
And while you’re on the site, be sure to check out our demo and what we’re all about. There is much more to come!

Hi Carl,
Thanks for all your work on Creative Cow – the tutorials are super helpful!
I’m a multimedia teacher and I’ve been trying to create video tutorials of what I cover in class so that when kids are absent, they can catch up on what they missed.
I was wondering if you could post your video recording “workflow” somewhere. I’d love to know what resolution you capture, what sequence settings you use when you edit, and what settings you use for export from Compressor (I’m assuming the use of Final Cut Studio…?).
I’m using iShowU HD Pro for screen capture. Is that what you use?
Thanks!
Nate
Hey Nate –
There are a number of ways to do the recordings, but here’s a quick overview of what works for me:
I use iShowU to record my tutorials at a resolution of 1350 x 900 (that’s 1.5x the resolution of the final delivery format so I can zoom in and out of the image). Editing and VO cleanup are done in Final Cut Pro, Audio is mastered in Soundtrack Pro and the zooms are inserted in AE. The final FLV master is created using Adobe Flash Video Encoder.
Thanks for commenting.
Cool edit. I like the monologue.
That said, I can’t help myself. If I should die before I wake, I pray the bowl my soul to take. :)
Great video, and the corner looks just like the other tiles. Your tutorials are most helpful. By the way, hilarious comment Joe Clay…lol.
Hi carl,
I watched your “Basic 2.5D Rig Removal
” tutorial and I was relay enjoyed it.
I want to practice it very much.
Do you think you can post the original video ?
Sorry, Eran. I can’t post the footage. We keep the project files and source material for the Master Series DVD’s.
Hopefully, that won’t be too far away.
In the mean time, you could always download my other mocha tutorials from imagineersystems.com which include the project files and footage.
